The Bigga
Progress Association received a grant from the Australian
Government's Community Water Grant fund in 2006. The grant
was to enable the purchase and installation of rainwater
tanks and a new, water efficient waste water treatment
system.
In October 2006,
two 25,480 litre Reinforced Plastic water tanks were
purchased from Tank World, and installed to harvest
rainwater from the roof of the Bigga War Memorial Hall.
In March 2007, an Envirocycle waste Water Treatment System (WTS) was installed to replace the old septic system for the Hall. It will also service the new Amenities Block which is being built. The Envirocycle WTS treats waste water so that it can be used to water flower beds and shrubs in the park.
The combined water tanks
and water treatment system allows the Bigga community to save over a
million litres of water a year.
Many thanks to the
Australian Government's Community Water Grants, the Upper Lachlan
Shire Council and the community volunteers who made this project
possible."
