| Bigga To-Day |
|
Bigga is attractively situated 56 Km northwest of Crookwell and is noted for producing some of the worlds finest and most expensive wool.
After leaving the main road just past “Funny Hill Station”, the site of the annual Binda picnic races held in March (The oldest continual country race day in Australia first held in 1848), you drive through the rural community of Crooked Corner, passing the school (still in use today) along with the church.
At the top of Snowy Mount you will find the Sheck Webster Lookout, which commands magnificent views over the surrounding countryside and the Great Dividing Ranges.
Approximately 8 km’s east of the village you pass through the Blanket Flat area, today a collection of both recreation blocks and working farms in its hey day, Blanket Flat boasted a Post office, Hotel and a Cricket Pitch, (it even had a temperance society).
Upon arrival in the village you will be swept away by the unspoilt village atmosphere. Bigga Village was proclaimed in 1892. The Uniting (originally Methodist) and the Anglican Churches date from 1906.
